Peer Group Coaching

“Group coaching is a small-group process throughout which there is the application of coaching principles for the purposes of personal or professional development, the achievement of goals, or greater self- awareness, along thematic or non-thematic lines”

– Jennifer Britton

What is Peer Group Coaching

The Peer Group Coaching program supports your professional and personal development through self-discovery, building personal branding tools and skills, and enhancing your networking capabilities. By actively participating in your Peer Group Coaching sessions, you can expect to gain a clearer understanding of your personal strengths as a competitive job applicant and learn how to effectively reflect these strengths in your elevator pitch, resume, cover letter, linkedIn profile, interviews, and networking experiences.

Through this program you will work closely with a group of 4-7 peers and 2 BIE students who are trained Peer Coaches. You will participate in weekly 90-minute group coaching sessions at the VSE Career Centre, which can be attended remotely or in person. These sessions will involve peer reviews and group discussions on related topics. Additionally, you will need to dedicate 1-3 hours per week to prepare for assignments.

Keep an eye on your email for upcoming Peer Group Coaching sessions. We look forward to helping you achieve your personal and professional goals through this collaborative and supportive program.

“Peer group coaching taught me several small tips and tricks that you don’t come across when you study topics like networking, resumes, and cover letters online. Some things you only discover through experience, and during this program you’re talking to those who have that experience and are willing to share it with you.”

“I participated in the Peer Group Coaching Program during my first term at UBC, and it was an invaluable experience. The program provided an essential kickstart for someone like me, who was just trying to navigate the starting point of their career. It covered the basics, such as crafting a resume, preparing for interviews, setting up a LinkedIn profile, and learning the fundamentals of networking.A few times during the program, we also had the opportunity to interact with Nancy, who gave us valuable feedback on interviews and elevator pitches.
This was my first foray into networking, and being there with our peer coaches and classmates made it a comfortable and enriching experience. Engaging with my peer coaches was incredibly helpful, as they shared tips and insights from their own journeys. I am profoundly grateful for the support and guidance provided by the Peer Group Coaching Program.”
