Moving Beyond Cultural Boundaries 2020

On January 14, 2020, the Career Centre hosted the “Moving Beyond Cultural Boundaries” event, a key initiative to foster cultural understanding and inclusivity among first-year students in the Bachelor of International Economics (BIE) program. This session was designed to highlight the significance of the Musqueam Land Acknowledgement at UBC, emphasize the importance of bridging cultural and linguistic divides, and introduce resources to support students in their transition.

The event featured a range of activities, including insights from a speaker from the First Nations House of Learning, a thought-provoking video, personal anecdotes from upper-year students, and interactive networking exercises. These elements collectively underscored the Centre’s commitment to enhancing students’ educational experiences and preparing them for a global workforce.

Through careful planning and engaging content, the “Moving Beyond Cultural Boundaries” event not only educated students on cultural sensitivity but also provided practical opportunities to practice it. By hosting such events, the VSE Career Centre plays a vital role in equipping students with the skills and perspectives necessary to excel in diverse international environments.
