“Optimism is a strategy – a way of dealing with difficulties and sensing opportunities. It’s about your vision, foresight and emotional toughness to fight the gravitational pull of negativism, despite challenges and setbacks.”
– Martyn Newman
What is Emotional Intelligence Group Coaching

Developing emotional intelligence for leaders is designed to provide you with an understanding of emotional intelligence and how it applies to your leadership skills both in the workplace and your personal life. This 9-week program will follow concepts from the book Emotional Capitalists by Martyn Newman, discussing topics such as self-reliance, straightforwardness, optimism, self-actualization, relationship skills, self-confidence, and empathy. The program includes exercises to set tangible goals that will help you develop these skills. Through Group Coaching, you will work closely with the Director of the VSE Career Centre, a Peer Coach, and 4-7 of your peers. We will hold weekly 75-minute virtual group coaching sessions, supplemented by approximately 1-2 hours per week of preparatory work.
This program aims to enhance your emotional intelligence, making you a more effective leader and improving your personal and professional interactions. Keep an eye on your email and the online events page for upcoming sessions of the Developing Emotional Intelligence in Leadership program. We look forward to helping you cultivate these crucial skills.

“The Emotional Intelligence Program is unique, in the way that it forces you to take some time out of a busy week and truly reflect on yourself and your goals. If you’re someone who’s feeling a bit lost and wants to be centred, I truly recommend trying out the program. That goes for both newcomers and returners.”
